VOR NAV Receiver Testing

This video shows how to generate a complex test signal to emulate a ground based radio navigation system for aircraft (VOR). The generated signal can then be used to verify the accuracy of navigational receivers intended to be used with a VOR. Used in this video: LeCroy WS3162, LeCroy HDO4024 and Yaesu FTA-720

  1. Dear sir, I am an avionics mechanic. I am delighted with your videos that I accidentally met. As I am just beginning to carry out repairs, it is impossible for me to buy expensive test benches for navigation. I would like to know more how to make a vor signal tester. Many thanks and sorry for the inconvenience. Greetings from Argentina

    • Hey Sergio! If you have an Airband radio for transmitting, all you’d have to do is build a circuit that generates the tones and the subcarrier. In the alternative, if you have an arbitrary waveform generator, such as the Siglent SDG1032X, you could generate various VOR test signals using Python and use them for testing purposes.

Gracias
